Your IP Address is your location in Internet terms. It could be your Internet address when you are browing on-line or sending e-mail. One way or another the various programs that use the Internet will be based at an IP address.
You will usually only need to know your IP address because somebody needs it to allow things to happen. An example is when you need to be allowed to access a Web site that has restrictions on who can see it. The IP address is then added to a list of allowed addresses to view the Web site.
